They especially like it when I greet them with a puppet. It's even more exciting when the puppets are characters in the books we are reading. Not only do the puppets increase student engagement, they also allows the students to take an active part in the storytelling. After group story time, the students want to read the story on their own or with a buddy using the puppets. In the process, students are practicing comprehension, reading, fluency and even fine motor skills. \r\n The puppets you provided for the students are from book series. The crayons and the old lady are in at least 15 books each which allows the students to read a variety of books using the puppets. Getting students hooked on a book that is part of a series is a great way to help foster reading and a lifelong love of books.\r\n You would think that only the younger students would enjoy the puppets. That is not the case with my students. The older students frequently ask to use them. One of the favorite activities of the students is having the older students read a story using the puppets to younger students. The activity increases engagement, builds relationships, and creates a sense of community in the school.\r\n Thank you for making the library an even more exciting place to read with interactive play and strengthen our school community.","fullyFundedDate":1757683199066,"projectUrl":"project/puppets-for-literacy/9320021/","projectTitle":"Puppets for Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Coffey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6137085"},{"teacherId":10343345,"projectId":9879557,"letterContent":"The students absolutely love the new water/light table and all of the sensory bins and tools we now have. They've created \"sensory oceans\" using the blue beads, textured balls, and sea creature figures, and built imaginative \"Dr. Seuss forests\" with the long green sensory tubes and matching beads. Some of them even sit inside the table because they enjoy it so much. Their excitement is so genuine that the only way they seem able to express their appreciation is by fully immersing themselves—laughing, smiling, and soaking up the sensory stimulation they crave.\r\n\r\nThey also adore the wall lights. They love interacting with every new item in the room, and I truly believe this space helps them feel like there is a place just for them—a place where they belong and feel safe, without the noise, overwhelm, or unpredictability that can be so challenging during the school day. This room makes them feel special, understood, and seen. The fact that we can keep adding to it because of your generosity is incredibly meaningful. Your support shows these students that someone out there cares deeply about their well-being and their school experience—so much so that you are willing to invest your hard-earned money into their happiness and growth.\r\n\r\nThe way the students respond to your kindness is what makes every bit of effort worthwhile. Because of your support, I feel even more empowered to advocate for them and to continue doing everything I can to lift them up and support them throughout their educational journey.","fullyFundedDate":1762701708495,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-room-for-students-self-regulati/9879557/","projectTitle":"Sensory Room for Students’ Self-Regulation","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. M","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10343345_orig.jpg?crop=576,576,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762615465292","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10343345"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_35075","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":256,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":92,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":56,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":85.0,"schoolId":35075,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Berkeley - Glenn Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Berkeley - Glenn Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/waynesboro-public-schools/berkeley-glenn-elementary-school/35075"}
