Creating a 21st Century Math and Science Oriented Classroom

My Students

First grade students love math, science, and everything technology! I want to bring an exciting way to teach math and science into my classroom. My students enjoy the hands-on math and science manipulatives we have in our classroom, but I also want to bring technology to them.

My students are energetic first graders who have a love for learning and exploring.

They love to use computers and technology. At this age they are so curious about everything and excited to learn new things. I have English Language Learners in my classroom who would benefit from having new tools to help them experience math and science in an interactive way. My students need new resources to unleash their creativity! We are very lucky to have our elementary school next to an open space that has beautiful oak trees!

My Project

Adding three iPods to my classroom will be a great addition to the computers in my room. My students love to use computers but we only have a few to share. The iPods are a great tool that can be used individually or in groups. By having three iPods more students will have the opportunity to do projects, build math skills with math applications, learn about various science topics, and learn new reading skills. Students will be able to listen to stories and record their own reading. My students will also be able to film and take pictures of hands-on projects they do in the class to share with others.

These iPods will give my students tools to access information in an interactive way that encourages them to be independent learners. They will make a tremendous impact in the lives of my students. We will be able to improve the way we do science and math in the classroom.
