My students need to get their hands on materials, like STEM kits, snap circuits, and games, that provide limitless opportunities to investigate, build, and collaborate in our classroom.
Our classroom is full of adventurous, enthusiastic, fun-loving, inquisitive, eager learners. These students come to school everyday to create, explore, and investigate through hands on learning. We are a Title 1 school, so most of our children come to us with a need for a safe, loving, and comfortable place to learn and grow. Our classroom is a second home to our students. They work cooperatively, support and care about each other. We truly become a family during our time together throughout the school year.
My Project
STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four main areas: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. We use an interdisiplanary and applied approach by integrating the four subjects and working in our educational program based on real-world applications.
Project based learning (PBL) is a student-centered educational plan that involves a vigorously active classroom approach.
We have seen how students acquire a deeper knowledge through exploration of real-world problems and challenges. If students are interested, invested, and engaged, the learning possibilities are endless.
The coding and STEM supplies that have been requested such as the Tinkering Labs Electric Motors Catalyst STEM Kit and the Snap Circuits PRO kit are used during soft starts, choice time, and PBL. These materials provide students with necessary life skills, encouraging them to explore, create and build. We want our students to understand that making mistakes means that you are trying, and tinkering, rebuilding, and modifying is where the learning is really happening. Experience with problem solving and critical thinking while using these materials will help to prepare students for successful futures in STEM fields.
Items such as the SKIL 2354-12 iXO Power Screwdriver With Cutter Attachment are needed to showcase students’ educational gains through PBL and prepare for exhibitions. This helps to build their self confidence, allowing them to create artifacts, videos, teaching materials to proudly showcase the knowledge they’ve acquired.
