My Students
My school is located in a small, rural community with multiple students receiving Title I services and free/reduced-price lunch. My classroom is full of little learners that each have their own uniqueness and challenges. Each day, they come to school ready to learn in an environment that is steadily moving toward supporting these 21st century learners.
Our school does not have the budget to supply my students with a 'Work Stations' storage unit that will help my students be efficient, quick, and organized.
It is important to me that my kindergarten students learn how to be independent and self-sufficient during literacy 'Work Stations' time.
My Project
It's human nature to take the easy route and leap at storage methods that promise quick and convenient ways to remove visible clutter. These methods don't work-especially in the classroom where there are multiple bodies coming and going in all directions. Putting things away creates the illusion that the clutter problem has been solved. But sooner or later, all the storage units are full, and the room once again overflows with things. This is not helpful. In fact, it is inefficient and cumbersome which ultimately, puts the learner in a crunch against time. With this unit, the kids will learn to be independent and organized-a life skill that is vital.
