My Project
The students I work with in my District 75 school require specialized materials to access the curriculum. As the speech therapist I am constantly adapting resources, making communication books and boards and creating materials to send home to parents that will last.
Sending home a paper schedule will last a minute but sending home a laminated schedule will last a lifetime!
It is important we create materials that will last and won’t be destroyed quickly. Students with autism benefit from repetition so creating materials that are laminated with Velcro allows a task to be completed many times over again.
Some of the materials we create and laminate to be used over and over again are adapted books, visual schedules, token boards, communication books, communication boards, choice boards, first/ then boards, behavioral supports. The list is endless. These are things we use throughout our therapy sessions, school day and in the children’s homes. My students deserve access to the curriculum through adapted- laminated materials!
