it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing. They are resilient and have had the best attitude during this pandemic.
I teach kindergarten students at a high-poverty school in New York City.
My students are curious and love to express themselves through any creative means.
As with all students, they all have diverse learning styles. Some are visual learners, some are auditory learners, some learn best through reading/writing, some learn through crafts and some are kinesthetic learners.
My Project
Many of my Kindergarteners have a hard time expressing their feelings and emotions during this pandemic. They have been through both remote and hybrid learning. Due to many different shifts in their schedules, they are unable to verbalize what they are feeling.
Using watercolor paints and drawing paper, they can make sense of their feelings and gain control of their emotions.
Having open ended materials like felt, construction paper, scissors, pom poms, and other art supplies will help my kindergartners express their feelings and learn in a tactile and kinesthetic way.
Arts and crafts activities will allow them to focus on their social and emotional development as well as their academic development. They can relax and express themselves through their artwork. Art also encourages personal creativity and imagination. When young children are free to create artwork, they develop self confidence and become imaginitive individuals.
