Create Design and Print

Help me give my students experience designing and creating 3D models with a new 3D printer.

My Students

We are an inner city public high school with diverse student demographics.

Approximately 60 percent of the student body are eligible for free and reduced lunch.

My students in my Advanced Placement 3D art and design class create and document there work with digital camera. Students use Adobe Suite to edit their digital photographs. the culminating event and product for the year is to submit their digital portfolio to the AP board for evaluation. Students receiving a passing score may earn college credit depending on the college's they attend criteria.

My Project

In my ceramic sculpture classroom we work in a variety of materials and processes. Clay, wood, wire, mixed medium and found object. If provided a 3D printer my students could experience designing with Sketch-Up or Tinker Cad and print their work. Much of sculpture industry incorporates these emerging techniques in the production and prototyping with design and fabrication. By providing my students with this experience They will be more prepared for the ever changing landscape in design and fabrication. I have also found that emerging student artist need a variety of modes of art production so that they can find their personal niche.
