I teach fifth grade reading at a economically challenged school in Texas. I have a great shortage of lower level books in my classroom. I have tons of fourth and fifth grade books that I have purchased myself, but not much under that level. In the past I have never had this need for such low level books because my students have been better readers than they are this year. This has been a challenging year because sixteen of my forty students are reading below a forth grade level. Some of my students are very low readers because they have never been given the opportunity to read in the classroom, so they never developed a love for reading. I believe that if I can expose them to reading materials on their reading level, that I can develop a love for reading. I know that the more these students are exposed to reading, the more they will enjoy and love it. With your help, I know that I can make a difference in these children's lives. I know in my heart that if they had actual books to read that they could understand, then I would have a greater chance to create a love of reading.
