As the only art teacher in a Title One public elementary school located in the Bronx, I can tell you honestly that if I asked all of our 1000 students "Who is Picasso?" or "What is the Mona Lisa?", perhaps 20 might have a correct answer. Well, if educators are to teach children to survive in the world, and to see that children learn about the past in order to protect the future, we surely must teach them about the contributions to society made by the art world. Now, having stated my mission as an art teacher, I am asking for help in accomplishing my goal of familiarizing students with culturally significant artists and art works. I plan to accomplish this by providing students with a take-home color-your-own version of artistic masterpieces, which will include a small, color insert of the actual work and a short bio of the artist. Through this hands-on exposure, students will develop, over time, their own collection of renowned artworks. To carry out my plan. I am asking for a color copier/scanner to use in the art room, as well as some ink/toner to keep it going. I prefer a copier that has a paper feed, can produce 30 copies a minute, has the capacity to print both letter and legal size, and can print double-sided. A copier with this efficiency would allow me to carry out my plan, and would help the students in my school to acquire an education that pays homage to the art world. Thank you!
