My students are an incredible group of diverse learners in NYC! Our community speaks more than 10 languages, serves students with disabilities, and students who are learning English as a new language!
This project will mostly serve students who need social-emotional support from me - the school counselor!
Our students have faced many challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic and we are in one of the most hard-hit communities in the US. As our students transition back into full-time, in-person learning, it is important that they have a counseling space where they feel comfortable, safe, and ready to learn and grow.
My Project
Students who receive counseling services on their IEPs will have the most access to these materials. These students need the most targeted social-emotional support to succeed at school. This space will be a haven for them to explore and learn about themselves and their relationships.
Students who have been impacted by COVID-19 will also use this space as a way to find support from our social worker and school counselor (me!) These students will work on building social skills and emotion regulation skills as they transition back to school.
Ultimately, all the students who attend our small but growing school in NYC will have access to these materials!
