Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I will start the next year with 32 students. I will need to change activities to give them a chance to move around. One great opportunity for movement is gather together on the floor. This will be a simple, and practical individual rug.
My classroom represents the very diversified community of Hunts Point in the Bronx, New York City.
Most of my students come to class, mentally and emotionally prepared to learn despite living in one of the poorer congressional district within New York City. Most of my students live in homeless shelters or subsidized housing. The school's staff takes pride in educating all our students. We strive together as a family of educators to create a safe, nurturing learning environment for our students.
My Project
This individualized pieces of carpet will be used at least two times every day with my classes.
It will be a space for our math and science discussions.
A place to learn, meet, and collaborate.
In fifth grade, students enjoy having discussions, learning with, and from their peers. These rug will be an ideal match to assist with those connections.
Children who has a preference for flexible seating will also find the rug to be a cozy place to lay and read during science or sit with a peer and do math.
Being that these are individualized carpets, I am hoping they will be a cleaner alternative versus a single big rug.
