My Project
Students in first grade are tasked with learning about the needs of living things. The basic needs of living things include food, water, shelter and air. Compost helps to provide healthier food for our plants, and then animals.
These materials and tools will help my students understand the importance of composting not only in regard to reducing waste, but also seeing their compost used in our school gardens.
As this composting often takes weeks, having these tools will also allow students to observe each step of the process (adding scraps and the stages of decomposition). The class will also take responsibility for turning the bin and managing the classroom bin. The books in this proposal are geared toward younger students and helping them to understand the importance of composting.
After this year, students will have a unique understanding of composting and how the results can affect our Earth!
