My Students

My students are a dynamic and creative group of special-needs children in grade 7 who strive to do the best they can in all areas. They are supportive of one another, and combine their talents to create a unique atmosphere where they feel comfortable to be themselves, ask questions and grow academically and socially. Nearly all of my students come from low-income households. They strive on the encouragement and support of our teachers and staff. Please help my students continue on their path to success!

My Project

The donations to this project will help me improve my students' understanding of and competency in technology. Daily use of Chromebooks will allow students to practice reading and writing skills daily that are crucial for the middle school students to be successful and ready for high school and beyond.

Reading and writing are academic areas that we focus on daily to ensure that my students can access the grade-level curriculum as much as possible.

In order to effectively provide support in these areas, our students need greater access to technology in the immediate classroom. This will provide an opportunity for students to have greater access to differentiated reading materials, while providing online tools such as read-aloud, highlighting. larger font, and color contrast.

In addition, the use of technology will increase motivation in the area of writing. Many of our students receive occupational therapy services, and struggle with handwriting. Having the option to type, edit, and/or use speech-to-text will create amazing possibilities. Daily access to Chromebooks will provide an incredible resource that will encourage my students to stay engaged and master computer reading and writing skills in order to be prepared for high school and beyond.
