My Students

Structure, organization, and routines are the key to our success! My students are energetic and want learning to be fun. School is very challenging for most. My goal is to move my students towards grade level expectations and beyond. With the correct materials I am confident this can be done!

Let me introduce you to the class of 2025.

We are a second grade class of 30 students. All of my students are of mixed academics, most falling below grade level. They are excited to come to school and learn. They want so desperately to meet grade level expectations! Our school is located in a very high poverty stricken neighborhood in the South side of Chicago. Almost all of my students receive free or reduced lunch. Many have extreme social emotional needs and it is my job to wear the many hats of a teacher to provide my students a safe, nurturing, supportive, and structured classroom environment that meets their academic needs! Our school works tirelessly to ensure that we are reaching individual needs academically and socially because we want nothing but the best for our kids!

My Project

The resources that I have requested for our classroom are going to help us make the transition to the Common Core State Standards. While our school has been implementing the standards, this year we will be moving full steam ahead. I want to provide visuals of the standards so my students know what the learning expectations are. I want to continue to make my classroom warm and inviting by providing students opportunities to read and work independently in areas of their choice, hence the chairs and use of the clipboards. The clipboards will allow my students the freedom to work outside of their desk. The rest of the materials are all Common Core aligned so I can provide my students with academics that will move them towards career and college readiness! My hope is to create a rigorous and well structured classroom that generates a love and excitement for learning!

This project will truly make a difference in our classroom by allowing my students freedom and choice, as well as helping us understand how to use the standards.

I want them to own their learning and understand why all of this is important. The materials selected will allow us to change our thinking about learning.
