Crayons, Markers, Glue: Replenishing the Basics for Kindergarten
My students need basic (yet neccessary!) classroom materials, such as writing instruments, paper, glue, Clorox wipes, plastic sheet covers, a pocket chart, magnetic letters, and literacy station games.
Excited, engaged, enlightened - these are a few words to describe the way my students feel about their Kindergarten journey! With a safe place to inquire and learn, my students spend their days interacting with each other, exploring the world around them and expanding their hunger for knowledge.
Many of my kindergarten scholars have never before seen the inside of a classroom, and over 95% of the student population receives a daily free or reduced school lunch.
My students' cultures, backgrounds and support systems range diversely, as many of my students are English Language Learners, have qualified to receive Special Education services, or have already endured some type of trauma in their short life. Despite all of this, these young scholars come in to school every day eager to learn and ready to take on the world.
My Project
Items requested in this project are basic materials that my students use every day! These materials aid in the learning process by fostering an organized and abundant classroom. Crayons, markers, glue and paper are just a few of the items that need replenished for my students.
Basic materials that promote the organization and efficiency of our classroom ultimately increase my students' learning!
Some materials that will aid in our classroom organization are a pocket chart that will be used for a daily student survey, plastic sheet covers that will allow my students to save paper while working in literacy stations, and 3M Command hooks that serve as coat and backpack hangers!
A few requested items will enhance my students' organization and learning at literacy stations - our favorite time of the day! Thin Expo dry-erase markers will allow my students writing practice without the downsides of the bulky, dried out markers we have currently. Magnetic letters and paint dobbers will increase student engagement during differentiated instruction at my teacher table. Finally, two requested literacy station 'games' will increase student engagement and independence while working at literacy stations.
