My Students
My school is located in Woodside, New York, within the borough of Queens, which is known as one of the most ethnically diverse areas in the world, according to Guinness World Records. Approximately 85% of our students speak a language other than English at home, including over 30 different languages. About 30% of our students are English Language Learners.
My Project
While some students are blended/hybrid learning, all students at my school are mostly learning remotely this year. Having basic art supplies, like crayons, is essential to bringing story characters and historical events to life. Students learn by doing and creating, and these items will help spark their creativity and interest in their own learning. Most students are English Language Learners who learn best with picture support, color-coding, and illustrating their own work.
Since most students are learning remotely, they do not have the art supplies at home that we would have within the classroom.
By funding this project, you will be helping my 4th graders design and create their own books, color-coded and illustrated guides, and historical art projects as they learn about characters, story elements, and New York State history.
