Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a small Title I school where a lot of my students qualify for the reduced price or free lunch program.
Many students come from diverse cultural backgrounds.
There are 16 different languages spoken at my school. Most are English language learners, speaking English as their second language.
My 5 year old Kindergarten students usually come into Kindergarten not knowing much, but it's amazing to watch them learn and grow over the school year. Many students say they are having so much fun that they want to come to school even on weekends.
My Project
I've taught Kindergarten students for 16 years and 2nd graders for 3 years. This will be my 20th year teaching. After trying and using all kinds of crayons, I found that the Crayola Twistables work best for little learners. The big fat crayons last a long time, but they are too fat for coloring nicely, and the regular skinny crayons are not good at all because they break so easily. I've tried the Crayola Twistables with my Kindergarten students and found to work the best. They don't have these paper wrappers that are hard to peel or break easily. The only problem is that these crayons are costly and not all parents can bring them in as one of the supplies. One year I bought these crayons out of my own pocket. Having these crayons will make our learning go so much easier and more fun.
