Crash Into Calmness: Air-Lite Ball Pit for Sensory Processing Needs

My Students
Our Title I school is located in Northern Mississippi. We have a wonderful group of family and students! I am a special education teacher for PreK-2nd grade students. My students have a wide variety of learning characteristics and special education eligibilities with most sensory and/or behavior needs. Each child enters our school with their own sense of wonder and curiosity, while also having their own individual needs.
In my room, we focus on whole child development which includes academics and social-emotional education.
My students' needs greatly vary from non-verbal to children high functioning on the Autism Spectrum. Some have language needs- receptive, expressive, and/or articulation, as well as health concerns or disabilities.
Due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, our families were given a choice between full-time in-person instruction and full-time virtual learning instruction. All of our teachers, including myself, teach both sets of students throughout the week!
Our classroom and school is a special place where children receive the love, resources, and accommodations needed to learn and grow each day!
My Project
Have you ever just needed to fall on the couch or felt angry and needed to squeeze an object? I sure have! For my students with additional sensory processing issues, additional support is needed throughout the day to regulate these feelings, emotions, and senses!
The air-lite ball pit is a wonderful sensory tool that allows my children the opportunity to safely experience proprioceptive input with squishes, jumping and crashing, as well as tactile and vestibular input through rolling!
The Air-lite ball pit is a safe sensory product and will go into our school wide sensory room which is available to all students when needed throughout the day for planned and unplanned sensory breaks! I am sure it will become a fan favorite for our students!
