My Project

I currently teach 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade special education students. They often ask me for supplies and materials to use for projects and writing essays. I want to create a space for students to work where they have everything they need in one space. I have included the basics like a printer, paper, pens, pencils, sticky notes, etc. I already have some motivational posters to add to the wall. My plan is to buy a desk lamp and an area rug to make this space cozy and inviting.

Students need a sense of ownership in order to have buy-in into an idea.

This space will be theirs. They will be responsible for keeping it clean and organized. I have included bins and holders to help keep items neat. The students will be responsible to let me know when the space is running low on supplies. I surveyed the students to see what kind of materials they wanted in this space. I plan to survey them after about a month to see what other things they would like to add to the space. This will help build trust, responsibility, and a real life experience. My hope is that this creative corner will inspire some of them to make a space at home as well. Be on the lookout for another project in a month or two- I plan to keep this going by keeping it fresh and unique and changing up colors and adding new and fun items each month.
