This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Ericson School is located on the West Side of Chicago in a very low-income neighborhood. The school is under funded, which is sad and unfortunate for the teacher and students. Due to the lack of funds in the school, teachers must teach the students art. There is no money in our school budget for an art teacher, or art room. My classroom has no art supplies especially since this is my first year teaching.
Although my students are fifth graders, they still love to do art projects, however they are limited to what they can do because our classroom and school lack supplies. Therefore we are very kindly asking for a donation of reusable art supplies, such as a classroom set of crayons, markers, scissors, glue sticks, Elmer's school glue, glitter, paint, and pipe cleaners.
These materials will allow the students to schedule Thursday, which is a day they don't have a resource scheduled, for actual art work. The students would love to create art projects, social studies projects and science projects, without having to wait 10 minutes to use the one and only pair of scissors our classroom has. All students have a talent and every student may not be very book smart but they may have wonderful artistic talent, and as a teacher I would like to tap into each student's talent. With your help and these materials I will be able to do just that. The students would enjoy these materials.
Thank You In Advance
