This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a diverse and socio-economically disadvantaged group of 9th through 12th graders in a high need district. The students are participants in the after school theatre program and/or students in our Introduction to Theatre class.
These students give tirelessly of themselves for countless hours in and after school to create student-led theatrical productions.
The students handle almost all aspects of the theatre program, including serving as designers, stage managers, carpenters and technicians. They are fully committed to making the most of their limited resources so that the productions are as high quality as possible.
My Project
As our theater department and program continues to grow, we want to provide the opportunity for as many students to be involved in the creative process as possible, so our supplies and materials need to grow with the program. My students have such a wonderful desire to participate and make their visions reality, and I want them to be able to do just that.
These supplies will allow more students to create and bring to life their artistic designs and give them the opportunity to participate in our stage craft program.
More students will be able to help paint our sets, sew and fabricate our costumes. The more tools we have, the more students can be involved.
Sadly, I have in the past had to watch students patiently wait their turn to participate in the creative process simply because of a lack of tools. This project will help give every student who wants a chance to engage.
