This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income school, I plan to give my students the highest quality education and a safe space to gather their ideas, thoughts, memories and knowledge. Approximately eighty-five percent of students qualify for free lunch, many of which attend school without the bare school necessities.
Students attend school to be away from what goes on beyond these walls.
Students show interests in many subjects. Many times they want to express their feelings with art. In my classroom, students have time daily to use art supplies to express themselves and the learning we are doing.
Students look forward to entering a classroom where they can block off the outside and just express and be themselves. Inside our school and my classroom, our students are children they can express what is needed.
My Project
Receiving craft supplies would expand our art center in the classroom. Currently, our center is limited due to a lack of supplies. Students enjoy engaging in cut and paste activities as well as painting. Students in this center want to gain more independence. Independence during this time would become more comfortable for students if supplies are accessible and organized.
Bins and buckets, in addition to new supplies, would create independent creative students in the classroom.
New textured papers, glitter, and pompoms will help students expand their sensory actives. Students will have the opportunity to explore guided activities such as the person creation modeling their feelings on it or using to to express character exploration in language arts.
