This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students in my Crafts and Ceramics I and II classes come from a low socioeconomic and underprivileged environment. Majority of my classes are made up of 10th-12th grade male and female students of African American and Hispanic descents. Living in the city environment that surrounds them, students channel all of their demographics into the art they create in my classes.

My students come to school each day knowing they get a chance to relieve the stresses and triumphs they are faced with in their home lives.

Even before entering my classroom, students are eager, excited and ready to get creative! Many come during their lunch to continue working on projects and some even stay after school!

My Project

Students currently have limited tools to create their projects during the ceramics and wood burning units in my Crafts and Ceramics 2 classes. My classes usually have around 24 students in each class and they share 8 rubber ribs to smooth out their ceramic projects as well as 10 pencil tools with no current needle tools to carve in designs. Having these extra tools will allow them to have to wait less time while other students are using the tools.

During the wood burning unit, students have 10 wood burners to share among 24 students.

Having extra wood burners will allow my students to create their compositions without the worry of someone else waiting to also create their own wood burning. Overall, with these extra supplies students will be able to take their time and create their best work.
