This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
We plan to use crafting to open our students' hearts and minds. Here’s the idea: they’ll create cards and whip up snacks as projects and genuine expressions of care for others. Plus, we’re throwing in some treats as rewards for students when they’re caught being kind.
Every card and snack our students make will be designed for someone right in their classroom or school who could use a boost.
They'll need to think about what words would lift spirits or what kind of snack might brighten someone's day. It’s about stepping into someone else’s shoes and seeing things from their perspective. This activity nudges our students from their own experiences and encourages them to consider the feelings and needs of others.
Whether it's a card for a peer who's going through a tough time or a homemade treat for someone who might be struggling with hunger, these simple gestures teach students that they have the power to ease someone's suffering. It's about showing them that their actions—no matter how small—can contribute to the well-being of others.
We’ll encourage students to share how they felt during the crafting process and what they think the impact of their gift might be. These reflections will help deepen their understanding of empathy and kindness. We'll monitor how students treat each other daily. We hope to see more acts of kindness, sharing, and support.
Your donation of crafting supplies would fuel this whole operation. We need materials to make the cards and ingredients for the snacks—basics like paper, markers, and so on. Your help would provide the necessary resources and affirm to the students the value of kindness and generosity.
