Our middle school is set in the beautiful WV mountains. Although it is picturesque, our students live in a rural area without many opportunities. Books are a great way to give our students different experiences and perspectives. I love encouraging students' love of reading through exposing them to quality literature.
Our students come to us with a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds and family situations - my goal is to provide every student with the same access to quality literature.
Many students may not have a plethora of materials or resources at home. We avoid asking parents for donations because it can put a strain on some families. Instead, we try to do creative fundraisers to raise the funds needed for other lessons and projects. To this end, I would like for my students to be involved on the creative end of the fundraisers - as well as the financial ends of selling and profits. We hope to purchase items that will allow us to create products we can then sell for a fundraising profit for our classes/groups.
My Project
These materials will supplement our first crafting project. They will be used to create materials to sell for fundraising, such as T-shirts, mugs, hats, plates, and more. We are planning to collaborate with the art career exploration class, so they can help design and market the products as well. Any profits from our fundraisers will be used for more student career exploration materials and/or field trips.
Creating with these products will promote creative expression, provide real world career experiences, and require financial planning.
I know the students will be excited to create with these materials, and it will provide a way to generate money for future endeavors.
