Help me give my students a sublimation printer to create products in our class maker space for project-based learning and community service initiatives.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
At the beginning of each class period, voices in unison recite our classroom creed: "Today is a new day! It has been given to me! I can positively use it, or negatively abuse it. The choice is simple - it is all up to me!"
I teach at an inner-city middle school where 95% of our students come from low socioeconomic households.
As such, many students do not have access to the types of technology being proposed to utilize in this project. The school has piloted a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) initiative for our students. Our purpose in STEAM education is to increase student engagement by transforming the typical teacher-centered classroom through greater emphasis on student-centered curriculum that is driven by problem-solving, discovery, and exploratory learning.
My Project
Each semester my students complete community service learning. Most of our projects are done for the elderly members of our community and children that are hospitalized long term at our local children's hospital. My students are in need of a sublimation printer to create projects in class for service-learning projects.
Service-learning allows students to learn more about their personal motivations, practice academic material outside of the context of the classroom and testing, develop critical thinking skills while solving real-world problems, and to think about problems and social issues in new ways.
