This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
In the heart of our McKees Rocks community lies a school where young minds grapple with the weight of trauma every day. One tool that helps students cope with all of the challenges that they face is the power of therapeutic art activites.
Through the transformative power of creative expression, these resilient children find comfort, healing, and a voice to articulate their emotions and experiences.
However, to make a successful art program, supplies are necessary. With your generous support, we aim to provide an array of materials for projects that will enable our students to explore, process, and communicate their innermost feelings in a safe and nurturing environment.
Some of our projects will include bracelets that tell the story of a child's experience before, during, and after a traumatic experience. Our youngest students will learn to express their emotions through Perler bead emojis. Other students will create t-shirts that spread awareness of mental health issues throughout the school. Posters will be crafted to encourage other students to practice empathy and kindness toward others. Paint and canvasses create an open pathway to painting their safe spaces as a visual reminder when triggered throughout the day.
Your donation will not only furnish our therapy room but also empower these remarkable students to continue their journey of self-discovery and resilience through artistic expression. Together, let's craft a brighter future for our students, one art project at a time.
