I teach art at a small elementary school in New York for students with severe disabilities. The students in my school are between four and eleven years old. There are thirteen 6:1:1 classes (6 students, 1 teacher, 1 paraprofessional) and one 12:1:1 class (12 students, 1 teacher, 1 paraprofessional).
Most of the students in my school have Autism Spectrum Disorder, but that doesn't stop them from being amazing and unique artists.
My Pre-K students really love creating art and exploring new art making materials through station work. They thrive in an environment that is well organized and structured.
My Project
I am continuing to develop and build the art program at my school. This year we also opened our program to include Pre-K students and there are still some basic tools that are needed to help make our program the best that it can be.
I need a craft paper roll with a rack to enhance my school's art program for our Pre-K students.
The craft paper roll, rack and casters will give my tiniest artists access to large paper. Having the rack be mobile is particularly important as a traveling art teacher. Having craft paper and a way to move it will give the Pre-K art program a lot of creative freedom. Access to large paper will mean that my Pre-K students can work on large scale projects such as designing a city map for imaginative play during station time or full scale body self-portrait.
