This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a 2nd grade ICT teacher in a Title I school, I work with a diverse group of learners, many of whom are English Language Learners or students with disabilities.

Teaching foundational reading skills in a way that is both accessible and effective is one of the most critical and challenging parts of my role.

I’m seeking the UFLI Foundations teacher manuals to strengthen my knowledge of structured literacy and improve how I deliver instruction to meet the needs of every reader in my classroom.

UFLI is rooted in the Science of Reading and offers a clear, systematic framework for teaching phonemic awareness, decoding, and word recognition exactly what many of my students are missing. With these materials, I will be able to engage in high quality professional development that helps me grow in delivering direct, explicit instruction with confidence and clarity. It will guide me in how to better scaffold skills, identify where students are struggling, and respond with targeted supports that accelerate their growth.

This isn’t just about improving my practice it’s about giving my students the chance to experience reading in a way that finally clicks. Many of them have struggled for years. I want to be the teacher who changes that. These manuals will equip me to close gaps, build confidence, and give every child regardless of their background or learning profile a real shot at literacy success.
