My students need these coding games and take home packs to help bridge the home-school connection. It is my goal to get kids to "unplug" the electronics and "connect" with their family members; creating meaningful learning experiences!
As a Pre-K teacher, it is my job to instill a love of learning at the tender age of 4. I believe that if learning is hands-on and fun, the children will be more excited about learning and view school as somewhere the "want to be" rather than somewhere they "have to be."
My school is in a culturally-diverse, urban setting where many of these students come from families who are of the lowest, socio-economic status, exhibit "evidence of substantive failure of thorough and efficient education, including failure to achieve what the DOE considers passing levels of performance on the High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA), have a large percentage of disadvantaged students who need an education beyond the norm, live in an area which exhibits the existence of an excessive tax for municipal services.
My Project
These coding file folder games and take-home packs will be useful both in the classroom and as take-home activity packs. I am one of 6 teachers chosen to pilot our district's new Pre-K Coding Program (affectionately called Pre-Koding). I think these packs will help parents better understand the concepts that I am introducing in the classroom.
By keeping the activities clear, easy, and tangible, I believe that the parents/family members will be more likely to reinforce the concept of coding in everyday aspects of daily life, resulting in success and soaring self-confidence!
