This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This is an end-of-the-year activity that I have done with students for years. By cracking open geodes, my students will have a hands-on experience, while they learn about how geodes are formed, the types of minerals found in geodes, and basic geological processes.

The excitement and anticipation on their faces as they reveal the crystals within a geode rock is amazing.

Many of my students have never had this opportunity before and I am excited to offer it to them. The crystals inside geodes are beautiful and can vary in color and form, such as quartz, amethyst, and calcite. This activity can spark an interest in mineralogy and appreciation for natural beauty.
