Ours is a Title I school located in Kansas. The majority of our students are on a free or reduced rate lunch plan and many are English Language Learners. Though these kids might not have everything that others do, they come to school with great attitudes and minds like sponges that are ready to soak up any learning opportunity that is thrown their way.
Some of the students are homeless.
There are a lot of special needs students at the school. The neighborhood that the school resides in was hit by a tornado a few years ago. Some of the students live with grandparents or in single parent homes. A lot of the parents are unemployed due to the recession and the economy.
My Project
These nutritious snacks (crackers) will help the children obtain the vitamins and minerals they need in order to be successful in school. The kids do not have access to enough food at home. 90% of the students receive free or reduced rate lunch. There are homeless children at the school. It is hard for the kids to concentrate when their stomachs are empty. They need the nutrients in order for them to focus on academics.
Essential healthy snacks will help the students come to school prepared to learn and gain knowledge.
It is a big challenge for educators to help their children learn when their kids say that they are hungry. If the students are lacking food, they will not be willing or able to learn. They need the snacks.
