Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in one of the lowest income/highest poverty schools in our district I understand that our students face many obstacles. As a teacher within our school, my goal is for my students to understand that learning is the key to success in life and for college readiness. By preparing our learners academically and giving them access to experiences they would not have access to otherwise. We are molding positive contributors to our school community and the community outside of our district.
This year I am teaching a very bright, enthusiastic group of advance learners in all subject areas.
I am fortunate to understand that all students have the capacity to be GREAT thinkers and I want to work with them to help them discover their own love for learning. When our students love to learn teaching becomes much more organic within the classroom.
My students love to work together and bring such life and joy into the classroom each and every day. They come eager to learn, work on group projects, learn new things and come with the skills needed to be successful. I need rich, engaging and supportive resources to push my students to their fullest potential.
My Project
Reading is such an essential part of learning. By creating a more comfortable, inviting and engaging environment in our classroom library students will be encouraged to build their love of reading. We need our space to create spaces to sit comfortably in the library.
Small group and center time is a large component of the structure of my literacy block.
By having bean bag chairs and a carpet that illustrates the love of reading hopefully students will be motivated to feel at home as they independently read for comprehension, fluency and center-time. My goal is to create lifelong readers who enjoy reading and the experience of reading. By having a welcoming environment students will have a more memorable reading experience in 3rd grade.
