Help me give my students a space where they can learn self-control of their thoughts, emotions, and bodies and a space where they can practice calmness and mindfulness.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The cozy corner in my classroom provides a safe space for my students to learn valuable strategies to safely express their emotions in a healthy way. The calm-down corner can provide a safe space for students to let out their emotions or just take a break.
The calm-down corner can be used to teach students different strategies to calm down, for example, deep breathing, relaxation, and positive self-talk.
Overall, a calm-down corner is a valuable tool for helping students to manage their big emotions. By creating a calm-down corner that is safe, inviting, and comfortable, I can help my students thrive.
The Calm Strips, silicone fidget toys, and plush space toys provide textile stimulation that some students need to feel calm. Additionally, the books selected provide activities/strategies to practice and learn about kindness, empathy, gratitude, and SEL overall.
