Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first graders are full of energy and their curiosity drives their learning. They get so excited when we are learning about new topics that are related to them and the world around them. Their love and passion for learning is infinite.
Our school is a Title I school with 552 students, and 100% of them receive free lunch.
Ninety percent of our students are socioeconomically disadvantaged, with a forty percent English Language Learner population at my school. In my first grade class, All of my students are who are English Language Learners. I also have some students that are foster children.
Even with all of these struggles, we strive for the best. I believe that all children can learn when one shows them that they are important and that they matter.
My Project
Having an inviting and cozy rug for my first graders will make big difference in our classroom. We spend most of our time on the rug during our whole group instruction and it is essential that the space where we are having lessons be welcoming.
It also important that the students have their personal space that would keep them focused without worrying about others interfering with their learning.
The squares on the rug gives boundaries to the students and assigning each student with their own personal space lessens the time on behavioral problems and gives an opportunity to focus on the learning.
The rug is truly an essential tool to many activities that are necessary in first grade. One simple rug can bring lots of smiles that motivates students to continue to love learning in a positive, clean, and, safe learning environment.
