Cozy Reflections: an Experiential Learning Journey Through Books and Journaling

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project-based learning combines the magic of reading with experiential learning to foster a love of books and personal reflection. Each student will receive a book and be encouraged to engage deeply with it in a warm, inviting reading space throughout the winter months. This project promotes relaxation, self-reflection, and social connection, helping students engage meaningfully with literature through hands-on and reflective practices.

To add a special touch, I will give students bookmarks, journals and treats, setting a magical tone for the experience.

Students will explore the impact of a cozy environment on their learning, discussing how surroundings can influence focus and emotional connection.

Each student will select a book that excites their imagination, encouraging inquiry-based learning and a personal connection to their reading. Weekly reading sessions in a distraction-free, comfortable space will help students settle into their books with focus and mindfulness.

After each session, students will journal about their thoughts and emotions, reflecting on how the reading resonates with their own experiences and insights. Through this journaling, they’ll connect more personally with their books and practice self-expression. In group discussions, students will share reflections, practicing collaborative learning and gaining new perspectives on their stories.

At the project’s end, students will look back on how the cozy reading environment and journaling influenced their connection to books and learning. Participation will be assessed through engagement in reading, journaling, and group discussions.
