I am a 1st year special education teacher in Iowa and I work with 3rd graders. I came to this job halfway through the year and have loved getting to know my students. My students love reading and each student has various interests. Some love classics such as the Wimpy Kid series or one of my students loves nonfiction books about wars. Each one of them is special in their own way, and I am glad that I get to know them.
My students each are special and quirky in their own way.
I strive and want nothing but the best for them. They love to use different reading strategies such as echo or choral reading during reading class. I want them to have a cozy reading corner in my room to escape and feel safe in my room. Each of them is important to me and I look forward to getting to know them more.
My Project
The purpose of my project is to give my students a place where they can freely read and feel comfortable in my classroom. They decided with me what they would like to see in the classroom. They decided on bean bag chairs and some pillows to go with it to make it cozier. Sometimes they lay around the room and read when we have free reading Fridays. The pillows with different textures would be a great addition when we do this. They also read on Tuesdays when I progress monitor my students and they have to sit and wait for their turn.
The most important part of my project is to have a place where my students can let their minds wander and fall in love with a good book in a cozy reading corner.
Reading is the foundation of success in our lives. To be able to give them a cozy corner where they can escape in a book would be a great addition to the classroom. Any support is greatly appreciated!
