Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

About 70% of our students are reading below grade level. All are enrolled in the free lunch program. One-third of our students are in the special education program.

Many of these students do not have a designated reading area in their homes, so I want to create that for them at school.

I hope that by giving them this space, they will come to love reading for more than just getting a grade. This is a space I know they will be excited about.

My Project

My students need a comfy cozy spot to read in. Our school mission is to instill of love of reading within our students. I want to make reading as attractive as possible.

By creating a cozy and inviting reading space, I hope my students will get more acclimated to reading on their own.

I believe if they have a comfortable spot where they can relax, this will help them find that reading is fun. Hopefully, these habits will carry over into their home lives, and they will find reading just as comfortable outside of school. The main goal is helping them find a love for reading.
