This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all.
–Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
My students are bright individuals that work very hard for their education.
My students are funny, caring, unique and inquisitive about everything. Our school is a downtown school that serves to mostly free and reduced lunch students. We are an International Baccalaureate school and we have high expectations that students will make a positive impact in their world regardless of where they come from.
I encourage and challenge my students to be the best person at home, at school and in their community.
My Project
I have a lovely Accelerated Readers' Library that was kindly donated by a former teacher. Also, I have over 200 books that I have personally bought for our library. My students now need a place where they will be able to sit down comfortably and enjoy a book. Sitting in a cozy chair and grabbing a book is a great way to take in a mental adventure. I want my students to feel relaxed and exhilarated when reading.
I am asking for a replacement bookshelf along with the bean bags. My last bookshelf crumbled into pieces when I used it to blockade the classroom door during an emergency school wide 'lock down.' (The last bookshelf was from IKEA) The new bookshelf will help display books that are grade level friendly, content based and culturally diverse that foster global mindedness.
My goal as a teacher is to provide an environment that is safe and fun for my students.
My readers could now have a safe, fun and enjoyable place to go when they want to dive into a fictional novel about a porcelain rabbit and his journey around the world, learn about the American explorers venturing on the Missouri River or even study multiplication facts with peers.
