My Project
My Cozy Corner reading project is to begin building my first classroom space dedicated to reading. As a new teacher, I want to bring a focused, mindful area to my classroom that mimics the school library; a small space where a child can be enveloped in an atmosphere to read and sink into their imagination. The goal is to give a student-centered, discovery-based area that is structured to encourage self-interest, inquiry, and choice. I will build lessons to reinforce this structure, including ways to build your own space--physically and mentally--anywhere they would like to read. After all, reading can happen anywhere you have a good book, you're comfortable, and you can open your imagination beyond the space you sit in. I am requesting two bookshelves, two inflatable lounge chairs, a rug, throw blankets, and other items to make this cozy corner inviting to students.
