This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each day my students work in small group literacy centers differentiated for their reading levels. One of the ways to increase fluency and comprehension is to have the students read independently every day. I want the students to feel at home in my classroom library and be comfortable reading.

Many of my students come to third grade below reading level.

Our school is a school in need of improvement. I have many challenging students, and I am looking for ways to motivate them to read. Many of my students do not have the necessary materials and support they need.

My Project

The students will feel at home as they sit and relax on library furniture that will motivate them to read in a quiet part of my classroom independently. The children will be in a group of 5 at our library center during literacy stations. Students will also sit on the comfy pillows and bean bags during whole group interactive teacher read aloud and shared reading time.

My students will be reading every day.

The increased reading time will improve student outcomes in reading fluency and comprehension. When students can read well by the end of third grade, they will be well on their way for a lifetime of success.
