This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
At my school we celebrate our students' linguistic diversity. Our focus is to make sure our English language learners become proficient bilingual learners. Many studies show that when an English language learner is proficient in their home language, it makes learning a second language easier because they have a strong foundation to build upon.
That is why I am asking for independent Spanish reading books to replenish our library and improve our students' home language proficiency.
In this project I am asking for "Yo puedo leer!" books that are decodable and use high frequency words, so emergent readers will be able to read them independently. I have also included fun books like Princess in Black to help engage my female readers. Another item that will improve our library is the light covers. They will defuse the harsh light and turn our library into a cozy sanctuary.
