My Students

Pathfinder K-8 is a creative approach school in Seattle Public Schools that focuses on social and emotional learning. It also has an expeditionary learning focus that gets children out of the classroom making real world connections with the community and world in which they live. These children have the opportunity to "learn by doing", creating lasting learning. In addition to a hands-on approach, we follow a district curriculum in math, literacy, science and social studies. My students are bright and motivated and love coming to school.

My Project

Part of learning how to read is learning how to read quietly and sustained. Most avid readers know that having a cozy place to read makes reading far more enjoyable. This is true for adults, as well as kids. I provide a literacy rich environment in our classroom that is inviting and supportive of learning. This includes creating cozy and inviting learning spaces.

We need beanbag chairs, a presentation bookcase, a timer and book bins to help create an inviting library space.

The classroom library is the most important and valued area of our classroom! It is the place where the kids can take magical journeys together, or on their own into the wonderful world of books! Making our library cozy and inviting helps kids want to spend more time there, and supports their reading skills. In kindergarten we work on our reading stamina and having a comfortable place to read support our students in this skill.
