My Students

I have 20 students in my classroom located in a small rural community in the Appalachians. Our once thriving coal community is now a place of few opportunities. With approximately seventy-five percent of the children coming from low-income families, my students have many obstacles to overcome.

They are an intelligent group of hardworking students who continuously need to be challenged.

In a technology rich world, my students need the opportunity to have technology incorporated into the lessons.

Education should always offer opportunities and ways to be successful to our children.

My Project

The use of tablets in our classroom is an exciting activity. During reading activities, the students use their tablets to reinforce skills, and during math, they use the math tutor to work on their own personal learning experience.

With all this excitement and with the small student hands in first grade, it is not always easy to hold on to and manipulate fragile things like tablets.

Children want and need the independence of doing things for themselves. These tablet covers will give them that independence and confidence to be able to use the tablets we have in our classroom. The protective screen covers will prevent any damage as accidents can happen as students become active participants in learning how to care for the resources we have in our room.
