My classroom is a behavior support special education classroom. In our room we spend much of our time on emotional regulation and a calming corner is an essential part of our room.
Having a special cozy and relaxing calming corner is vital first steps in getting my students to practice emotional regulation.
When a student starts to become dysregulated, going to a calming corner is the first step. At the corner there are various tools such a fidgets, breathing strategies, and books. The current space is a wooden bench. Having a modular couch allows for students to calm down in a safe, cushioned space that they can transform to their needs.
