My Students
I am so excited for another year filled with learning and fun. Our school is a Title One school, meaning 95% of the student population come from low-income families. My students come to school eager to learn and for many, our classroom is one of the only places they can find books to enjoy and practice reading. As a first grade teacher, I am trying to teach my students not only how to read, but to learn to love reading. What better way to accomplish this than having a cozy, fun and creative space to be in?!
My Project
I want to create a cozy corner in my classroom for my students to sit in during independent reading and centers time. First grade is such an important year where students develop foundational skills in reading that are necessary to become life-long learners. Currently, we have old worn cushions and a shortage of reading seats for my students, limiting the way they can interact with one another and with the books in our classroom library. Through the donations provided, my hope is that creating a new comfy and inviting space will spark excitement and love for reading within each child.
