Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I want reading to be more than just turning pages and reading words. Reading in first grade and early reading experiences can foster a lifelong passion for books and learning. I want my students to become immersed in their books. I want to create an experience and space where my students can dive into a book and get lost in the pages with the characters, and feel as if they are part of the book.
Whether it be fiction stories or a nonfiction book, my students deserve a cozy, calm space with comfortable seating to get immersed in their books.
Not only will this space be just for reading, but it will also provide headphones for students to listen to their favorite stories on the various online book sites. Providing my students with various reading resources, cozy seating, and headphones not only supports their reading but also their social-emotional development. Reading and listening to stories help my students understand their own emotions, foster empathy, and develop social skills. It also allows my students to better express themselves, expand their vocabulary, and become a curious student who wants to open up a book to learn about new things.
