This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Find a book that makes you smile, find a friend to share it with and now get cozy on an old, stained and uncomfortable couch. Does this sound inviting? I think not. Even though I have a classroom library filled with wonderful books, I am lacking a couch that is just as great as the stories shared.

My students are a beautifully curious bunch.

They attend half day preschool for special education services in an urban, public school. Having a wide variety of special needs, my students fill the classroom with character, spirit, and laughter. They range in age from 3-5 years old having limited or no school experience. 90% of the children receive free or reduced lunch.

My Project

I believe that it is important to provide the best learning environment for all of my students. Reading books is a part of my daily classroom routine. We gather together in our library picking books that allow us to laugh, learn, and grow together. Our classroom community thrives on the books we share together. The children look forward to coming to school to read and reread books that interest them. Having an appealing couch that invites children to get comfortable in a space that allows for smiles, laughter, and the enjoyment of a lovely story is a wonderful addition to a preschool classroom. My students will not only continue to enjoy the comfort of their library, but they will do it in comfort and style.

This resource will greatly impact the children as they continue to appreciate quality books with their peers, as a whole class, and independently in a comfortable and inviting environment.
