Help me give my students a comfortable and cozy classroom reading corner with a chair and rug where I will sit and give them the option for flexible seating around me while reading.
Despite what people might expect, high schoolers are not too old to enjoy storytime. After avoiding my students' requests for me to read to them for several months, I decided to give in and begin a class novel that way. I have had more engagement than I ever expected and I now see the benefits that such time has on them.
During our current reading time, students are opting to sit on the cold floor in front of me in my broken director chair; I would like to change this into a comfortable area dedicated to our reading time.
I have chosen a sturdy chair to place in the area for me to sit in and an adorable rug to offer flexible seating for my students who like to be closer to me while I read. I have also chosen some decorative elements such as encouraging posters to inspire the kids and borders to make the space feel more comfortable and a part of the classroom. Then there's the candy, which I always take every opportunity to provide my students with as a way of encouragement for good behavior or correct answers when needed.
