The novel has made a significant impact on my students, not only in terms of their academic growth, but also in the conversations we are having about society, media, and the power of language.\r\n\r\nOrwell's themes of truth, surveillance, control, and autonomy have enabled my students to strengthen their critical thinking skills as well as allowed for close reading exercises/textual analysis. We have explored the novel's rich use of symbolism as well as the effects of propaganda and manipulation which we have layered into our classroom discussions. This has supported my/our curriculum's goals while encouraging students to be more thoughtful and conscientious of the world around them.\r\n\r\nI read 1984 aloud to my senior English class. The majority of my students are English Language Learners who struggle with the language. Hearing fluent reading modeled in real time helped them build confidence, understand pacing, and built greater comprehension. As a result, several of my English Language Learners who were once hesitant to engage with complex texts were not only able to follow along, but participated in class discussions and expressed that they felt truly connected to this remarkable piece of literature.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for providing us with this amazing resource that has made this learning experience possible. 1984 has opened doors for my students. I am truly grateful for the lasting impact this has made on our classroom community.","fullyFundedDate":1742917953810,"projectUrl":"project/big-brother-is-watching-1984/9142208/","projectTitle":"Big Brother is Watching- 1984","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cleveland","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9935455"},{"teacherId":5914643,"projectId":9251090,"letterContent":"Thank you does not seem enough. We have just started reading our novel. So far each student has seemed very interested in the story which has made me so excited to teach the novel. I look forward to covering the themes of adventure and materialism to my students. I can't wait to hear what they have to say about the different elements of the novel. They are responsible not only for reading, but also for creating questions to ask during in class discussions. I'm sure they will have great questions and even greater things to say.","fullyFundedDate":1746785791401,"projectUrl":"project/into-the-wild-world-of-reading/9282458/","projectTitle":"\"Into The Wild\" World of Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Russell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8543998_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753121712513","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8543998"},{"teacherId":9932906,"projectId":9135082,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, my students now have access to headphones and microphones that are transforming the way they approach class. These tools have opened the door for creativity, collaboration, and confidence in ways we could only imagine before.\r\n\r\nStudents sometimes struggled to share their voices—literally and figuratively—when working on projects. With these new resources, they can record podcasts, narrate presentations, and create multimedia projects that bring literature and writing to life. Technology like this makes learning more engaging, but more importantly, it allows students to practice real-world communication skills that will serve them far beyond high school.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for my students has been hearing their own voices in polished, professional-quality recordings. Many of them light up when they realize they can create something that sounds like what they listen to every day on Spotify or YouTube. One student who is normally very quiet in class has especially taken to the microphones; with the headphones on, she feels comfortable sharing her ideas in a way that she wouldn't have before. Watching her gain confidence and pride in her work has been one of the most rewarding outcomes of this project.\r\n\r\nYour donation has made English class more interactive, modern, and inspiring.
